Middle School Guidance - 6-7-8 Grades

Welcome to Middle School Guidance - Mrs. Jennifer Cuomo, Guidance Counselor

Hello to all parents and students!!  I am the school counselor for students in grades 6-8.  I will assist students, teachers, parents and administrators in various ways.  Some of these include: helping students as they identify and achieve their individual goals both academically and personally, counseling students with any issues they may face including self-esteem and responsible decision making , as well as working with parents, teachers and administrators concerning the academic and personal growth of each child.

I look forward to a successful year at Chester Academy!

Please feel free to contact me anytime at 469-2231 ext. 3309.
If I am not available please leave a message.  I make it a policy to return all phone calls within 24 hours.

My Resources

  • Character Education
Building character is an essential part to a child's growth. At Chester Middle School, we spend time in advisory each week discussing character traits and incorporate activities to support these lessons.

  • Bullying Resources
Bullying has continued to be a problem across the country. Please educate yourselves on what bullying is and how we each play a role in preventing it.

  • Career Exploration
Every 7th grade student will complete a career inventory with me. We will discuss interests, strengths, weaknesses and how they relate to various careers. Please expect to see your child's career interest inventory in December.

  • Learning Styles
Every 8th grader will complete a learning styles inventory with me. Finding out your individual learning style can help you to be more successful in all areas of your life. Please expect to see your child's learning style inventory in November.

Homework & StudyingTips

CHECKLISTS:
-Get into a habit of keeping to-do lists and posting assignments/reminders around your room or house.

ORGANIZE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
-before beginning homework, number assignments in the order in which they should be done.
-start with one that is not too long or difficult, but avoid saving the longest or hardest assignment for last.

DESIGNATE A STUDY SPACE
-you should study in the same place every night.
-it should be a quiet place with few distractions.
-keep all supplies and books nearby.

SET A DESIGNATED STUDY TIME
-use the same time daily to do homework and studying.
-try to avoid doing homework immediately after school. It is good to use some time to unwind. However, this may work best for some.

KEEPING ORGANIZED NOTEBOOKS
-organize papers in a binder or notebook.
-use dividers to separate class notes, or color-code notebooks.

CONDUCT A WEEKLY CLEANUP
-go through materials weekly to get rid of old papers and extras.

CREATE A HOUSEHOLD SCHEDULE
-try to establish and stick to a regular dinnertime and bedtime.

KEEP A MASTER CALENDAR
-include family activities, projects, tests and other activities.

PREPARE FOR THE DAY AHEAD
-before you go to bed (book bag card)
