CUFSD Voter Information

VOTER INFORMATION
You MUST be registered to vote in any Chester Union Free School District elections, budget, or referendum votes. If you are registered to vote in the general election, you are registered to vote in the School District Vote.

Registration Qualifications:
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Must be 18 years old by the day of the vote.
• Must have lived in the school district for at least 30 days before the voting date.
• May not be in jail, or on parole for a felony conviction.
• May not claim the right to vote elsewhere.

Who may vote?

You may vote if you are 18-years-old or older,  a U.S. citizen, a district resident for at least 30 days, and registered voter for either a general election or a school board election.

How do I register for the school vote?

If you are already registered with the county, you are eligible to vote. To confirm your county registration, click here

You can register to vote at:  DMV or Orange County Board of Elections

You may also register at the district clerk’s office, Chester Union Free School District, 64 Hambletonian Avenue, Chester, New York, from  8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on days when school is in session. Please provide proof of residency.

How do I get an absentee ballot?

Absentee ballots are available to registered residents who are unable to vote in person for reasons of illness or disability or who will be out of town on the date of the vote.

Applications for absentee ballots are available via:  School District Absentee Ballot application

NOTE: You must send this form to the Chester UFSD District Clerk, NOT to the Orange County Clerk.  The clerk must receive the application for the ballot at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.  For further information, contact the District Clerk at 845-469-5052, ext 3401.  The Office of the District Clerk must receive all completed ballots no later than 5 p.m. on the day of the election.

How do I vote early by mail?

Early vote by mail ballots are available to those who wish to do so.

Applications for early vote by mail ballots are available via: Early Mail Voter Ballot Application 

All ballots must be received by the Office of the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on the day of the election.
