Chester Elementary School hosts orientation for incoming students

Hip hip hooray, Chester Elementary School's newest Hambletonians are on their way! Prekindergartners and kindergarteners got acclimated to the school on Wednesday morning before the year begins at orientation.

The morning began with a warm welcome from Principal Mary Kate Boesch, who introduced teachers, nurses, psychologists and other staff members before discussing what a typical day is like at Chester Elementary.

“We're so excited to embark on your child's education at Chester Elementary School,” said Mrs. Boesch. “Each one of these teachers teaches with their whole heart every day. They will treat your children like their own every second that they are here.”

After a rundown of what to expect coming into the school year, families visited their child’s classroom and met their teachers. Students saw where their cubbies and desks were located, received school supplies, courtesy of the Chester Kiwanis Club, and met their new classmates.

“I really like the orientation,” said Diane Lubin, a new parent to the district. “I like the opportunity to come see the administration, to see the school… Initially, Jay had a little bit of anxiety. It’s a big environment, a big building, but then he adjusted. He already made friends quickly and everyone was so nice and receptive, so it made it an easier transition. And then all the communication that was coming through, the advanced preparation really just set the tone.” 

To end the morning, families heard from Transportation Coordinator Kevin Hannon. Here, he discussed the importance of staying safe and protocols for riding the bus. Orientation ended on a sweet note, with an ice cream social sponsored by the CES PTA.
