Parents Right to Know
As Required by The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) [Section 1112(e)(1)(A)] and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) [Section 1112(e)(1)(A)]
Under the "Parents' Right to Know" provisions of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), you are entitled to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child's classroom teacher(s) and support staff. Should you wish, you may request details about the following:
- Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualifications and licensing criteria have been waived
- The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or degree held by the teacher and the field discipline of the certification or degree held by the teacher, and the field discipline of the certification or degree
- Whether the child is provided services by teaching assistants, and if so their qualifications
In addition, you have the right to receive information on your child's performance in State academic assessments, which is typically shared through a mailing once results become available.
