The health and safety of our students and staff is our top priority. In mid-May the Chester School District convened a Schools Reopening Committee to begin studying issues related to school reopening. I would like to thank the members of the District Reopening Committee who are listed in the opening pages of the reopening plans. These individuals have worked tirelessly for over two months reviewing guidance documents from the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Education Department to develop these plans.
It is important to note that although these plans reflect the current knowledge and recommendations of leading health authorities as of July 31, 2020, and it is expected that the reopening plans will most likely need to be updated in the coming weeks to reflect emerging knowledge and new information from health authorities.
It is also expected that Governor Cuomo will be making an announcement during the first week of August regarding the opening of schools in New York State. The Governor’s announcement may impact the plans as they are presented currently.
These reopening plans are comprehensive in their scope and the Chester School District plans to continue to provide parents/guardians with additional information to provide a better understanding of some areas of the plan that require further discussion. We strongly encourage parents/guardians to check your email, text messages, school website, and social media (Facebook, Twitter) for more information about matters related to school reopening in the next few weeks.
We understand how stressful the topic of school reopening is for many people. In the next few weeks we will endeavor to keep our school community highly informed about our continuing efforts to ensure a safe reopening of schools.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
